English Coonhound - Skye - Large - Senior - Female - Dog
7 years, female, Bluetick Coonhound, 60-65 lbs
Skye is great with dogs, people of all ages and even cats. At 7, this girl is very sweet and aims to please. She was saved from the high kill shelter in NC where she has been in boarding since May. This winter, she?d like to find a forever home where she can relax by a warm fire. She knows 'sit' and 'come'. She is very healthy and heartworm negative. The vet does think that she suffered from a broken front leg at some point in her life that healed crooked, but it does not slow her down or give her pain at all. Skye loves everyone she meets - humans and dogs, alike! Check out her photo playing with her puppy friends at the dog park! She also does great being crated but is also trustworthy loose in the house when she's alone. She is very calm, loving, and quiet. See more photos of Skye in her album ! From Skye's foster ; Skye is a very sweet and gentle dog that will warm your heart. She has an upbeat, tail wags easily, nature about her that is so wonderful and loveable. She is friendly and quiet and easy to care for. She wants to please people. Hounds tend to be loving, happy, goofy pups and are an excellent fit in a variety of homes. Rural shelters are literally overflowing with hounds, especially at this time of the year when hunting season has ended. Hounds are often dumped after hunting season by inhumane and irresponsible hunters because they don't want to pay to feed the dogs between hunting seasons and would rather just 'buy a new one next year.' Sometimes they say the dog just won't hunt. The females are often used for breeding and thrown away when they aren't reproducing well anymore. Sometimes these hunters give them the courtesy of a ride to a shelter but more often than not, they are taken out into the woods to have their collars removed and set loose to fend for themselves. As you can see, these dogs are treated as property rather than as the loving and loyal companions that they are. Due to their sheer volumes, hounds are the first to be put down in these rural shelters, as well. CDR recognizes that hounds make some of the best canine companions and we are committed to saving as many as possible. Please consider a hound as your next pup!
